So we had a little discussion going on about drow nature. I figured we might as well talk about it here, rather than clutter up the OoC chat.
I posted my thoughts on the matter already, so I'll just reiterate myself here to start things off:
Hardcore drow society (like Menzo, as opposed to Sshamath) is displayed as being very much chaotic evil. The only loyalty any intelligent member has, is due to fear. They are fully willing to sacrifice, "friends," family, and cohorts alike to achieve their own goals. Show weakness, and someone underneath you will take advantage of it to advance themself. As a result, I imagine the average drow living in this situation has built a well fortified wall around his or her heart, and abolished any real sense of morality. This is pretty much what the Spider Queen encourages.
That's Lolth's way though, and as we know, Sshamath isn't too big on Lolth. The drow arrogance is still present, but it seems as though the city is somewhat more lawful, or maybe neutral, than chaotic. It has to be, in order for things to work properly.
Of course, every character is an individual, and drow aren't all carbon copies of each other, so there is a lot of room for variation.
