For those planning to submit a character concept for our campaign, here are a few things to keep in mind about the campaign itself, followed with some specific restrictions on character types we're looking for.
Read this BEFORE posting on the Waiting List, as any submissions that do not follow these guidelines will be rejected (and most likely deleted).
Also note that all character submissions are to be posted on the message board in the appropriate thread (as opposed to sending them directly to us via e-mail). That restriction is due to the fact that e-mails are far too easy to lose in the shuffle, and that we want to see if basic instructions can be followed.
First and foremost, before you even consider joining, you must have a working knowledge of the D&D version 3.5 game mechanics, at least the basics. We simply do not have the time to help anyone learn the game from scratch anymore.
For those who are familiar with 3.0 but that have never moved up to 3.5, the transition is quite simple and the WotC site has a Systems Reference Document available for free which contains all the game mechanics from the three core books. There is also a conversion book in PDF form that goes over the basic changes between the two editions.
It would also help for you to read the Player Conduct page on the website before you post a submission, as that could save you the time and trouble if you do not agree with the guidelines on there.
When the new site launches, we'll also encourage people to read the House Rules before they consider posting a concept. The House Rules on the current site are outdated, but you can still get a general idea of the minor alternate rules we utilize.
Second, you need to be familiar with at least the basics of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting and the particulars of the Underdark for that game world. This is to ensure that you are familiar with the differences in such things as deities, certain aspects of drow society, and the like that occur between various D&D campaign settings.
Third, be aware that we require all players to subscribe to AIM, which is a free messenger service. Even those who are AOLers will need an AIM account as well, as we utilize two chat rooms in play simultaneously (one for game-based story text, and one for dice rolling and OOC chatter & questions).
Now, on to the actual notes and guidelines for character types that we'll allow.
First, note the fact that this is a Drow campaign that is run in the Forgotten Realms setting (yes, for some reason, this needs to be specified and reiterated here).
The campaign revolves primarily around the faith of Vhaeraun, and more specifically on the temple of the Masked Lord in Sshamath, the City of Dark Weavings.
As such, your character must be one that is fully able and willing to integrate with that particular institution (the church), and/or the affiliated school of shadow magic-based wizards. Those who do not establish a connection to the faith and/or church in one way or another for their character within the waiting list submission will not be accepted.
As far as character race goes, we are obviously looking primarily for drow. Various templates are available if you want a bit more flavor, which we'll allow in most instances (as with all things, final decision on any template is up to the DM's discretion).
We've had far too many "oddball" characters in so far as race is concerned, something which we're putting a stop to (and that shouldn't have happened in the first place, but that's another issue altogether). This is not to say that we straight up won't accept anything else, but if you do choose to submit a concept that isn't drow(ish), you'd better have one hell of a pitch to throw at us
That should be about it. If I think of anything else, I'll edit it in here later.
