Everyone's heard by now about 4th edition coming out next year. It will obviously have an impact on the campaign's future.
While the new edition is released as of May 2008, I don't plan to switch us over to it until the new FR book is released in August of 2008. In all honesty, as there are HUGE changes to the Realms in store, I'll probably wait until September of next year to switch editions.
This doesn't mean that we can't toy with the new options as soon as they come out. Might be best if we did, at least to playtest them.
If all goes as WotC plans, it will be much easier for us to run and play a campaign online with the new edition. All the gruntwork of it will be done for us via their online tabletop program. If being the operative word.
There are already going to be changes in store for the campaign before the new edition comes out, thanks to Lisa Smedman and her meddling into the drow. I won't spoil it for those who don't want to know, but anyone who does want to know is free to ask me in IM or via email.
The Realms timeline is going to shift to at least 1385 for the new edition, possibly further, they haven't stated exacts yet. Aside from the current storyarcs in The Lady Penitent trilogy and the newest Erevis Cale trilogy, there have already been previews into something called the Spellplague that will change the face of the Realms in a major way. (Its their excuse and reasoning for the changes between editions.)
I'm not sure I like the changes, but as we remain core with the timeline in the Realms, we'll adapt and go with it as best as possible.
Anywho, I mostly posted this to alert you all to when we'll be doing the edition change for our group.
Y'all are free to use this thread as a 4e Discussion Forum amongst us as well if you wish.
